The distribution of natural gas in the municipality of Subotica began in 1990 as part of the Public Enterprise „Subotička toplana“ Subotica. Within this enterprise, a gas distribution network was built across local communities, with a total length of 500 km. The adoption of the new Energy Law created the need to separate the activities of heat energy distribution and natural gas distribution. Consequently, on 02.12.2005, the Assembly of the Municipality of Subotica passed a Decision on the change of legal status of the Public Enterprise „Subotička toplana“ by separating the part of the enterprise that carries out natural gas distribution activities. At a session held on 28.12.2005, the Assembly of the Municipality of Subotica made a decision to establish JKP „Suboticagas“ Subotica. Since then, the company has operated independently as a Public Utility Company, and its most important activities are:
- Distribution of all types of gaseous fuels via a pipe system
- Rough construction work and specific civil engineering works
- Pipe installation
- Engineering and others.
